Every year the watch internet runs the same play. Twenty-five or thirty essential GMTs. Eight hundred dollars to sixty thousand. Lined up as if they belong at the same dinner.

Teddy Baldassarre ran Mark Bernardo's list of twenty-eight GMTs for 2026. Teddy is an invaluable ambassador for this hobby. He is a trusted educator and a serious industry voice. His guide is built to shop inventory. This episode is built to measure the machine.

On The Long Sweep that reading is Tenue Score. Zero to one hundred. Construction. Timing standards. Case. Clasp. How it lives on a wrist. Waitlists do not count. Grey premiums do not count. A famous crown at twelve does not count. What sits between the crystals counts.

The lie of the fourth hand

A fourth hand is not a category. It is a pointer. What it connects to is the watch.

The true traveler GMT. Crown to the first click. Local hour jumps one hour at a time. Seconds keep running. The 24-hour hand stays on home. Date follows local midnight. That is the pilot tool. Rolex 3285. Tudor's manufacture GMT. Longines L844. Miyota 9075. Horage K2. Grand Seiko 9S86.

The desk GMT. The main hour behaves like any three-hand watch. First click walks the 24-hour hand around the dial. Useful at a kitchen table. Useless the moment the wheels hit Heathrow, because resetting local time means stopping the watch and building home time again. Sellita. ETA. Soprod. Traveler clothing. A Pepsi bezel. A module on a standard automatic.

Dual time that is not dressed as a sports GMT. Pushers. A hidden hand. A window at nine. Patek Travel Time. Parmigiani's hour that hides and returns like a split-seconds chronograph. Ulysse Nardin's two buttons on the left flank. Same job. Different watchmaking. Teddy left most of this family off on purpose. That was a shopping filter. It is not a measurement.

Lists flatten two more things.

A 500-meter titanium dive case, sixteen millimeters thick, is serious engineering. It is also a lot of watch under a cuff on a red-eye. Set it next to a slim integrated dual-time and you are not comparing two GMTs. You are comparing a diver that grew a fourth hand with a travel watch built to disappear.

Timing papers are not interchangeable. Official COSC tests the movement in a lab. A brand's own seal, however strict the press release, is still the brand marking its own homework. Superlative Chronometer is Rolex paper. It is not an outside examiner with the watch already in the case.

Chopard's L.U.C GMT One sits above the GMT-Master II on the sheet because the 01.10-L is a fully integrated manufacture GMT with official COSC papers. The hand-finishing on that movement is not why the number moved. It is the extra most collectors actually want when they pay for an L.U.C. The score measures the machine. The anglage is what you fall in love with after.

Grand Seiko Spring Drive is a different physics. It glides. It does not beat. Do not line SBGE285 up next to a 3285 and call it the same watch with a different logo.

The field

Steel. Steel bracelet when the catalog allows. If Teddy's hero is ceramic, titanium, or rubber, the steel sibling is the stamp.

Tenue Score is a 0 to 100 reading of how much watch you have. It is not a school grade. It is not a price forecast.

Sort by price. Famous names rise. Sort by the machine. A 40 mm Parmigiani with a disappearing hour hand sits above the most recognized sports GMT on earth.

The GMT-Master II at 74 is still a compact, serious traveler GMT. Last Tuesday's grey print does not make the 3285 better.

Under $1,500 the Miyota 9075 and a few Sellita pieces give you a real jumping hour or a honest module at catalog money. That is capability. It is not a substitute for a case you can swim in, papers you can check, or finishing that still looks considered in ten years.

Three from the list

The most watch: Parmigiani Tonda PF GMT Rattrapante. PFC905-1020001-100182. Tenue Score 82.

Press eight o'clock. The pale local hour jumps. The rose-gold home hand is sitting underneath. Press the rose-gold pusher in the crown. The local hand snaps home like a split-seconds chrono. Micro-rotor PF051. Forty millimeters. A little under eleven thick. Steel bracelet. No rotating bezel. The complication is the design.

The one you can wear without a speech: Longines Spirit Zulu Time 39. L3.802.4.93.6. Tenue Score 68. About $3,550.

Jumping local hour. Silicon balance spring. Official COSC. Ceramic 24-hour bezel. One hundred meters. A case that fits a cuff. Cheaper flyers exist. At this money, this is the one that still looks serious next to watches twice the tag. Get the 39 mm.

The Pepsi you can buy this year: Tudor Black Bay GMT. M79470-0001. Tenue Score 71. $5,275.

Manufacture GMT. Official COSC. Two hundred meters. Steel. Three points behind the GMT-Master II. Same job. If a collector insists the only dual-time sports watch that counts must be named after a soft drink or a caped crusader, they are buying a status symbol, not measuring a machine.

Three the catalog left on the floor

Teddy shopped the floor and stayed with a fourth hand on a round sports watch. Fair rule for a buying guide. These three still belong in the conversation.

Horage Supersede GMT. Tenue Score 78.

Thirty-nine and a half across. Under ten millimeters thick. Two hundred meters. 904L steel. Micro-rotor K2. 25,200 beats. Silicon escapement. Seventy-two hours. Official COSC. Jumping local hour. Home you can still read. Day and night. Big date. Power reserve. Steel bracelet. About 6,490 Swiss francs. Not a curiosity. More watch in less space than most of the list.

Grand Seiko SBGJ273. Tenue Score 74.

Teddy put a Spring Drive GMT on the page and stopped. The high-beat mechanical GMT is the one that belongs next to Rolex and Tudor. 36,000 beats. Jumping local hour. Steel. One hundred meters. Grand Seiko's own timing standard. Read it against the GMT-Master II at 74. Same fight. No waiting list.

Ulysse Nardin Classic Dual Time. 3243-132/E0. Tenue Score 75.

Ludwig Oechslin put two pushers on the left flank. Tap one. Local hour jumps forward. Tap the other. It jumps back. Home sits in a window at nine. The big date follows both ways. Silicon. Forty-two millimeters. This is the same idea as Patek Travel Time at a price a collector can say out loud. Thirty meters of water resistance. A travel watch, not a diver. Still more machine than the Rolex story the room already knows.

A catalog shows what is on the floor this year.

A score shows what you got under the dial.

How much watch first. The wrist is yours. The name on the dial is a different conversation.

Heath Jackson. The Long Sweep. A program by aeternus.
